I loved 4 when I first played it, even with the convulted plot. After all, several concepts are just reused and some improved in 5. This is purely speculation but I feel 4 was mostly a test or prototype for what would later be the perfected product in 5. You could say that the game plays a lot better than 3 and you'd be right but the scattered focus of having several protagonists does take it down a peg compared to a game which solely focuses on 1 protagonist.

Too bad it's the only game in the entire series that uses it (You could say you can freely explored rooftops and undergrounds in DE games but 4 is the only game where that mechanic is essential to the game).ĭefinitely one of the best soundtrack in the entire series. The rooftop and underground mechanic is super neat. Being second or third-to-last would have been better A "catch the bad guy while avoiding hazards" fight is SUPER ANTICLIMACTIC as the final fight in your game. The Munakata fight is just an even more annoying Jingu fight, made even worse by the fact that it's the last one. It says something that Kiryu vs Saejima or Kiryu vs Akiyama and Tanimura is FAR more remembered than any of the final fights. Hell, the final 4 fights are the least memorable in the entire series. NONE of the antagonists are memorable or have memorable fights. Story is arguably the worst in the series with too many twists and turns and backstabs going left and right. I'd say it's the worst of the best (Since all games are good).Īkiyama opening segment is GREAT which is why it's off-putting when you start playing as Saejima who is mechanically completely different. IMHO, Yakuza 4 is still a good game but probably one of the worst in the series. (Spoilers do not need to be tagged on /r/yakooza, so browse with caution.) Upcoming Releases Title
